I believe it's in the book. There's a story in the book where there driving to see the Grandparents, and Justin's father asks him to determine there speed by timing the distance between mile markers. There's another story in the book that mentions timing, and I think the answer is there.

I think the check point is the actual start of the hunt, like a car rally. And that there will be check points all along the way. But maybe that sounds to easy? But then when the author says that the poem will lead to an exact spot, there has to be some method of guidance?

I like the Car Rally idea but not sure that is that he is doing.

@cowlazars Well, it seems if there's a way to know we are going in the right direction, or on the right road. I would think that he left some kind of sign that we would recognize. Or there's some kind of cypher that would tell us. I guess that makes more sense than him driving around the country side leaving a trail of bread crumbs?

What got me thinking about the check point was Justin talking about timing the mile markers. Then when his brother disappeared, he had left a mile marker on the note pad. Then in the story of Gracie Grail he talks about the new stop light showing red, yellow and green, in three minute intervals. Maybe that's to convoluted, but there has to be at least one bread crumb some where.

What if the checkpoint is a trail cam. It could send him alerts (and the Steward maybe) if the motion detector is tripped. This could tie in to a foot of three. At first a camera mounted on a tripod seems odd. I think if he camouflaged it just enough, so if looking you wont miss it. Solar powered or he can change out the battery every so often.

A ring camera so anyone driving by his property in Montana triggers it and he knows who the locals are. He said it is more than a mile from his property... What if the only road in goes by his property though. A ring camera or video camera could easily be set up.

I thought it could be maybe a human, like Justin was like 'hey Frank if anyone comes in to get gas and asks about the Posey Treasure Hunt let me know.' But then that person (Frank) could easily figure out the treasure is nearby, so that may not work as a checkpoint.

My final solve share thought on the checkpoint, since I only have the Poem and Map so far, in the poem he only asks you to do one thing. "Return her face, to find the place" Maybe you literally have to do that and that triggers the checkpoint. Then again it could just mean when you see her face, just look where she is looking and you are either looking at the treasure or the immediate area it is located in.

Just sharing some thoughts. Go Phillies!

@erickw The check point is a conformation for us to know we are on the right track. Some thing that we would some how recognize.

In the book Justin mentions that his parents were Rail Road engineers. A rail line passes through Dillon, and a different line passes through Twin bridges. The trains his parents operated could travel at 70mph, the same speed limit as the roads.

@jpsaxnc - exactly and if you saw a camouflaged trail cam on a tripod, with three feet, wouldnt you recognize that straight away? Again not saying that is what the checkpoint is, just an idea. Not saying it is full covered up, just enough to keep some random person from seeing it, but a searcher should be able to spot it. Maybe it is not covered up at all just spray painted camo. Again that idea does have probelms such as battery and signal (not if it was just miles from his place in Montana for example.)

Yes, I would recognize that straight away. I'm from a part of California famous for one of it's agricultural products.  My thinking is that we would need the check point to know where to start the hunt. I don't think we would be walking at the start. A problem I have is that I'm not a critical thinker, and not a digital thinker, I'm an analog thinker, a much slower process of microscopic examination. Kind of based on probability and vague associations.

The hiding place. I've thought the hiding must be secluded away from people, so not to draw attention to it. I've thought locals would notice a strange vehicle going by. But a strange vehicle wouldn't get a second glance on a road to a campground.

The check point, If we look at Twin Bridges on Google Earth Maps, and have the direction arrow set to North. The poem says in ursa east, ect. So we change the direction arrow to East, and shoot a 20 degree line and follow it, we see Sheridan and just past it Brandon! I said to myself "no way" But decided to look around anyway. And low and behold, I saw a word that only appears once in the book. Coincidence had just gained a lot more weight.
